Cabinet Of Dr Caligari Original UFA Studio Photograph P.O.A
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (UFA, 1919). Very Fine. German Lobby Card (11.7″ X 9″).
A treasure from the early days of cinema, country-of-origin pieces from Robert Wiene’s monument to German Expressionism are exceedingly scarce and very sought after. Weaving a tale of unprecedented terror, writers Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer plunged headlong into the murky depths of the human mind, exploring the shifting boundary between subjectivity and insanity. The film’s surreal, nightmarish sets further warp the dark fantasy unfolding on the screen and have had a lasting influence on the horror genre, courtesy of the visionary designers Hermann Warm, Walter Rein, and Walter Rohrig. A murderous blend of romanticism, fantasy, and medieval fairy tale, it centers around the darkly mysterious Dr. Caligari (Werner Krauss) and his somnambulist, Cesare (Conrad Veidt). Blue Robin is proud to offer this German lobby card for the first time. In remarkable condition, this century-old card shows only light handling creases, slight corner wear, and soft surface scuffs.
