Hugo Niebeling’s version of ‘Eroica (1972)’ was severely re-edited by the producers. He was allowed to keep a black-and-white workprint of his director’s cut, though. It was released as a new film in 2009.
It won the Grand Prix, Menton in 1971.

Niebling was a German film director and producer. He had been particularly noted for his work on industrial and music films, and is considered one of the most important renewers of these genres in Germany His style is credited to have influenced and helped create the modern Music Video.
