Walt Disney’s animated masterpiece was developed from a short-subject cartoon that was based on the Paul Dukas musical piece “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” Mickey Mouse starred in the eight-minute short that was orchestrated by Leopold Stokowski. Disney and Stokowski both liked the finished product so well that they decided to expand the production from a short subject into a full two hour feature.
