Anna Magnani, one of the most popular stars of the Italian cinema, starred in this production from neo-realist Pier Paolo Pasolini. Magnani portrays a former prostitute, who is trying to live a better life, and succeeds at creating a new job for herself operating a fruit stand. However, when her sixteen-year-old son discovers her former career, he descends into petty crime and tragedy ensues.
