Very Rare Hatch Show Print for this african american traveling minstrel show.
Silas Green from New Orleans was a black African American-owned and run variety tent show that toured the southern United States from around 1904 to 1957. It was owned by the Tutt Brothers from 1904 to 1912 when it was sold to E.P.H. Williams, who was the only black circus owner in America. He set up a touring show for this show, which was part revue and part minstrel show. The show told the adventures of “coal-black” Silas Green and “tannish” Lilas Bean, who were both fictional characters (they were created by the show’s original writer, Salem Tutt Whitney). The show ran in various forms all the way until 1957. Advertising from any of the incarnations of this show is extremely rare!
