Rare Photograph By Acclaimed Photographer David Steen. Photographers Wet Stamp On Verso!
David Steen was introduced to photography when he joined the staff of Picture Post. Aged just 15 he was quickly taken under the wing of the legendary photographer Bert Hardy. He left after a couple of years to do National Service, which he spent as a specials photographer in Egypt. On his return he moved to Fleet Street and a job on the Women’s Sunday Mirror.
There he won The Best Picture of the Year Award from The Encyclopaedia Britannica. Aged just 21 he was their youngest winner ever.
He later moved onto the Daily Mail before freelancing for style magazines such as Queen and Nova, and The Sunday Times Magazine. In more recent years David has focused on his portraiture, turning his lens on leading actors, politicians and writers. His images, often shot on location, have been exhibited in galleries and in 2007 he published a book of his images entitled ‘Heroes and Villains’ with foreword by Roger Moore.
